The 2017 South Sound Food Summit – a Celebration of Local Food Culture – is a 2 part event taking place at the South Puget Sound Community College Mottman Campus on Friday 10/20 and Saturday 10/21. Read on to see what’s in store!
Local Flavors Tasting Salon – Friday October 20th, 6-9PM
We invite our community to come together for an evening of celebration & tastings on Friday 10/20 from 6-9PM. The Friday evening local flavors tasting salon will feature bites from local farmers, ranchers, restaurants & other food artisans, as well as beer, cider, wine & delicious non-alcoholic beverages. In addition to yummy local flavors, attendees will enjoy live music, guest speakers and a lively community celebration. The Friday evening tasting is perfect for anyone who loves local flavors, values local foods & farmers, or who’s looking for a new experience and a stronger connection to foods produced in the South Sound.

South Sound Food Summit – Saturday October 21st, 9AM-5:30PM
The Saturday Food Summit is an all day event that will engage attendees in a “choose your own adventure” day, with activities ranging from cooking demonstrations to farmer panels to seed mandalas and so much more. Over the course of the day, we will share two meals (breakfast & lunch) as well as snacks, and attendees will weave in and out of 5 sessions. 3 of them will be smaller group sessions, with classrooms sizes ranging from 30-100. These sessions include workshops, conversations, activities & panel presentations. The other 2 sessions will be with the whole group, and we will engage in individual reflection, small group dialogue and will hear from local food leaders on the future of sound food and how we can all be part of it. We expect as many 300 attendees on Saturday and are delighted to share tasty meals, locally sourced & prepared by SPSCC’s culinary arts programs & catering department. The Food Summit will have something for everyone and we are eager to bring together farmers, ranchers, youth, families, elders, restaurateurs, community organizations and those they serve to share in a rich day of experiences and connection. If you are part of the South Sound community and you eat food, this summit is for you!
We are still soliciting proposals for sessions and will post updates on the agenda as they are available. The three key themes of the summit are the environmental, economic & social impacts of local food. We are striving to design a summit that is fun, engaging, informative & honoring of the many diverse and powerful experiences that people in our community have with food, from growing it to selling it to preparing it to eating it.

To propose a session, either fill-out this on-line form or print, complete & email the Food Summit Session Submission Form by Tuesday September 19th. This deadline has been extended from September 1st so that more folks can contribute!
Looking For Other Ways to Get Involved in the Food Summit?
Host a Tasting Booth on Friday 10/20/17
We are looking for local restaurants, food processors, caterers, brewers, distilleries, and other businesses that source local foods (or want to begin sourcing locally!) to join us for a tasting salon Friday evening. We anticipate 300 attendees and invite our vendors to source small bites & sips to share with our community & help spread the word about your business. Details are still being sorted out – please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in learning more and you will be connected with the tasting salon organizing team to explore opportunities.
